The moment has come…new post

IMG_0005It’s been awhile. My re-creation of ‘Winter’ ala Game of Thrones was tacky, I know, but the point was valid, ‘Winter IS coming…ahem, Winter IS here’ and let’s get the reading on. I was proud of my choices for John Snow, Arya, Bran, the Hand, Jamie and Daenerys but I am sure reading is not on their minds right now.  Maybe not yours either but I’d like to recommend some titles that are worth checking out:

I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson; Quote from Reading Rants review…couldn’t resist: Friends, this book! This book! I’ll Give You the Sun is the most delicious, word-juicy tome I have ever read. I underlined so many gorgeous sentences and passages that the pages of my copy are practically phosphorescent with highlighter. You’ll want to squeeze it like an orange in order to get every golden effervescent drop into your brain. The paragraphs sing with marvelous descriptions of the joy of making art and the disappointment of missed connections. Jandy Nelson hasn’t just given lucky readers the sun, but an ENTIRE UNIVERSE in 300+ pages. Read it, weep, and then read it again. A simply spectacular book that you absolutely must not miss for all the sun, stars, oceans and trees in the world!

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart ; powerful, powerful story and ending

Cartwheeling in Thunderstorms by Katherine Rundell; how your true self will always show up…

The Adventures of Superhero Girl by Faith Hicks (so graphically funny…oh, those Canadians)

How I Discovered Poetry by Marilyn Nelson; nothing is more powerful than a few words that say everything…for the poets, known & unknown out there

Noggin by Corey Whaley; saved head on new body freaks out….but, hey, I’m here again!

And the books that wait for you patiently, online, on CD or downloadable…go find them.
